Students

Student Ministries (youth and college) anchors itself on the same mission that the church as a whole does: developing maturing vibrant followers of Jesus Christ.

Since students are both middle/high school (youth) and college (see at bottom), we've put them both under the "umbrella" of Student Ministries, however they are separate in their activities.

Youth Ministry

Gospel-Centered | Parent-Equipping | Church-Based

The Youth Ministry offers programs for students from middle school (7th grade) through high school. In everything we do, our burden is to advance the Gospel to the next generation. Based on our theology of ministry (Theology, Philosophy, and Methodology for GBC Youth Ministry), our philosophy in youth ministry is three fold: build teens into Christ; walk alongside parents; and integrate teens into the church. In other words, our youth ministry is Gospel-centered, parent-equipping, and church-based.

  1. Build Teens into Christ (Gospel-Centered)
We can do nothing better for our teens than to preach the gospel to them and build them into Christ. The teaching and preaching of God's Word holds a central place in the life of our youth ministry. Thus, to build teens into the Gospel must include building them into His Word.
  2. Walk Alongside of Parents (Parent-Equipping)
We have a theological conviction that parents bear the primary responsibility of raising their children and advancing the Gospel to them. Therefore we seek to walk along side of parents to augment their role with seminars, meetings and general teaching on parenting from a Biblical perspective, to better equip them to do what God has called them to do.
  3. Integrate Teens into the Church (Church-Based)
While parents bear primary responsibility for raising their children, there is a day in the future when teens will move out of the house, and a parent's formal responsibility for their kids will end (though in a God-glorifying relationship, the interaction and influence will continue). Our hope and prayer is that by this time these young adults will be fruitful family members of the local church.

Fall-Winter Schedule

During the fall and winter, our schedule consists of two primary activities: small groups and Sunday night activities (twice a month). Our small groups meet every Wednesday night from 7:30 to 9:00 PM at the church. Small groups are the primary vehicle for advancing the Gospel with the youth. It is in this context where the truths contained in the Scriptures can be both comprehended and applied. Our small groups are divided in two ways: middle school and high school and then from there boys and girls. By God's grace, the youth ministry has been blessed with tremendously gifted adult volunteer leaders who lead these groups, under the direction of the Student Ministry Director. The two Sunday night events are held on the 2nd and 4th Sunday night (primarily) of each month. The primary purpose of these gatherings is to building into the youth relationally. We have a firm conviction that the best way to advance the gospel with the youth is through relationships.

Summer Schedule

Our summer schedule includes two Sunday night activities a month and other ad hoc events. There are no Wednesday night small groups during the summer.
